Why Dubai?

January 15, 2010 Dubai officially offered to host the headquarters of the United Nations in case the Organization wants to leave New York. Roughly two weeks later the first EMIMUN started its sessions in the very same city. Of course, the preparation of EMIMUN 2010 had started months before the offer was announced or the relevant article on the website of Forbes magazine called for the United Nations to relocate to Dubai. However, there are few chances for coincidences. Dubai did not become the venue to host the largest international MUN of the Arabia by accident. Rather it was determined by the logic of the city’s development and the vision of its people.

Dubai is unique in its character and posture. Developing at a breathtaking pace this city strives on challenge. Dubai is growing and ambitious, bold and progressive just like young MUNees are. No obstacles have been able to make it turn off its path.

Dubai has a name and a history. Its name is world-known while its history emerged from old times, preserved for future generations in Dubai Museum, Bastakiya and Shindagha Districts, and evolved into the shine of modern architecture like that of Burj Khalifa, Burj al-Arab, the Dubai Fountain, Dubai Marina and magnificent Palm Islands. Dubai’s spirit of verticality defines its thirst for development. This city is full of life and energy. And yet it has always treasured its cultural identity remaining loyal to Islamic traditions.

Moreover, Dubai manages to combine antipodal things in a perfect balance. Sand and steel, glass and water coupled together make the city look incredibly fantastic and form an inimitable environment auspicious for the most creative and innovative solutions.

Dubai royal family and its prominent business families are well-known for their entrepreneurial spirit. Their initiative made Dubai’s desert soil fertile for various international businesses: malls, hotels, restaurants, a hi-tech oasis boosted the economic development of the city. It is a prime example of what people can achieve when not scared to overcome difficulties and to combine the best of tradition with imagination, interest and resolution. This is not only the formula for successful business but also a good recipe to settle the global issues on the UN agenda.

EMIMUN presents you a great chance to discover this ever-evolving city in a company of your fellow delegates from all over the globe.
