The Industrial Development Board of UNIDO

The Industrial Development Board of United Nations Industrial Development Organization

Economic Cluster Development for the Eastern Europe and Central Asia

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its mandate is to promote and accelerate sustainable industrial development in developing countries and economies in transition, and work towards improving living conditions in the world’s poorest countries by drawing on its combined global resources and expertise.

In recent years, UNIDO has assumed an enhanced role in the global development agenda by focusing its activities on poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The services of the agency are based on two core functions: as a global forum, it generates and disseminates industry-related knowledge; as a technical cooperation agency, it provides technical support and implements projects.

Today, the Organization is recognized as a highly relevant, specialized and efficient provider of key services in support of the interlinked challenges of reducing poverty through productive activities, promoting the integration of developing countries in global trade through trade capacity building, fostering environmental sustainability in industry, and improving access to energy.

Industrial Development Board (IDB):

The IDB comprises 53 members, elected for a four-year term on a rotational basis from all Member States. It reviews the implementation of the work program, the regular and operational budgets, makes recommendations to the General Conference on policy matters.

It was a good experience and now Samara Regional MUN is a tradition. Anton has contributed to the organizational work of the MIMUN Secretariat since 2006 and to the promotion of the MUN movement in different schools and universities of Samara and in the ENGECON-Dubai.

Address to future delegates:

Honorable colleagues,

I am glad to welcome you to EMIMUN 2012 and I am sure it will be a useful and necessary experience for us all. Our MUN will definitely be unique because of all the options that it provides for its participants. It is always a pleasure when you are able to combine captivating and efficient work with fascinating free time activities in Dubai while these two components are the essence of EMIMUN. It’s a wonderful chance for you to meet many different people from all over the world and to share your ideas on the ways to make our world a better place to live.

Discussing an innovative and such an interesting agenda as economic clusters and competitiveness of territories, forming projects and doing it on a highly-professional level – that is what the work in UNIDO IDB is about. Analytics predict future economic growth of the former Soviet Union states, so let us be the first to discuss the matter within a Model UN committee and share our projects that might shape the future of the region.

As a post-graduate student I work on my thesis on a very close topic to the one on our agenda and I can assure you that your ideas will be heard in Russia.

Yours truly,

Anton Kutin
