The Security Council is one of United Nations’ six organs established in article 7 of the United Nations Charter.

According to the Charter, the Member States of the United Nations have bestowed upon the Security Council the primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security.Other powers and functions of the Security Council include the investigation of any dispute or situation which might lead to international friction, determining of the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression and recommending what action should be taken, calling on Members to apply economic sanctions and other measures not involving the use of force to prevent or stop aggression, or taking military action against an aggressor. In discharging these duties the Security Council shall act in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations, while the Members of the United Nations agree to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council in accordance with the Charter.

Ghassan Shakhshir is a Phd student at the University of Babes-Bolyai in Cluj-Napoca, Romania where he studies Economics and Marketing. He is very interested in global politics, macroeconomics, international current changes and developments in population behavior. He has always been very active in NGO’s and voluntary work especially in issues including relations between the EU and the Middle East.

Ghassan has started his MUN experience in 2008 at WorldMUN and since then he has been involved in these conferences and similar ones such as EU Parliament simulations.For the future he plans to continue his academic studies in both economics and global diplomacy.

It is my greatest honor to welcome you to a great city, a great university and especially to a great Model UN in Dubai – EMIMUN 2012. Here you will have the wonderful opportunity to discuss, negotiate, and find the best solutions for the worlds’ most critical situations and for the first time in EMIMUN, you will have the chance to do this in Arabic.

Since we are living in times in which the world is struck by sudden economical, political and natural changes the agenda of the Security Council committee will Be “The most current issue by the day of the conference, to be announced on the eve of the conference”. Be prepared to find solutions to the most critical problems of the world and take action because you are members of the Security Council.
