Saint Petersburg State University of Engineering and Economics (ENGECON) is a prominent Russian university with a more than 100-year history and a cradle of Russian education in economics and engineering. Founded in the times of tsarist Russia, ENGECON undergone various transformations during the Soviet period and Perestroika before it acquired its present name and status in 2000.  The firm scientific ground places ENGECON among top 10 best economic schools of Russia. ENGECON is alma mater of several people well-known in politics and economics as well as journalism, culture and sports throughout of the Russian Federation.

ENGECON spreads the best practices of economic education in Russia and abroad. In 2005 its office was opened in Dubai (UAE).  It is the only university in Dubai, offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees taught in both Russian and English languages. In the process of delivery of its Bachelor and Master programmes in  Dubai it is following the fundamental standards of Russian higher education, and combining them successfully with the insight into local culture, UAE business practice and Arabic language. In 2010 and 2011 the first graduates received their diplomas.

The very same years ENGECON Dubai launched first Emirates International Model UN. EMIMUN is the first large-scale international youth summit held in the Gulf region on the annual basis. In 2012, the 3rd EMIMUN conference will be held in Dubai.

EMIMUN is made possible through cooperation of ENGECON Dubai Branch, International Oriental Academy with students from the Moscow State University of International Relations and the support of Dubai Knowledge Village, where the event took place. The partnerships of such a kind create a global network that connects educational institutions with tomorrow’s leaders in the Gulf region and beyond, and enhances international understanding among future leaders.
